Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: Stocking Anarchy and Panty Anarchy

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt was animated by Gainax in a distinct style resembling and homaging American cartoons. The theme of the series is “vulgar and indecent jokes” with director Imaishi Hiroyuki saying “If we are going to do this, we will try it thoroughly”. Wakabayashi Hiromi, who provided the initial idea for the series, cited “Drawn Together” as an inspiration for the show’s crudeness.

I thought the style looked strange for an anime, but I guess with Gainax, when they pay an homage to something, they really go all out. Thanks again to Stilzkin for sending this!

Panty’s usual outfit consists of a short, sleeveless, red dress with matching red shoes. Her angel outfit, however, seems to be inspired from ancient Greek clothing, especially her golden-winged, Hermes-like high heels. Although Panty has worn several outfits in the series, most of them allow her to slide her panties off with ease.

The sexy celebrity blonde, Panty Anarchy shows a fondness for the celebrity lifestyle, especially when it gets her closer to the men she craves. She likes spicy food and hates sugary sweets that her sister, Stocking Anarchy likes. She has the ability to turn her panties into a semi-automatic pistol called “Backlace”.

One of the more risqué cosplays I’ve featured, but I think it’s relatively still safe for work? Torchilina makes such a great Panty Anarachy though. Thanks to Darin for sending this!

When the Anarchy sisters, Panty and Stocking, were kicked out of heaven for bad behavior, they are sent to Daten City in order to collect Heaven Coins to regain entrance to Heaven. Panty is quite rude and aggressive, almost an exact opposite to Stocking who is generally more level-headed and intelligent. Panty does not take her Ghost-hunting duties as seriously as Stocking does, preferring other earthly pleasures before she returns to heaven.

Stocking is said to be more intelligent and responsible than her older sister, Panty. She has a gluttonous appetite for sweets and does not eat spicy food. She is often seen carrying a plush cat named Honekoneko whose expressions match Stocking’s mood. Her stockings transform into a pair of swords known as Stripes I & II.
